Quarter 2: Fun games and singing songs together

Board Game Night

Written by our ESSENCE member Sascha

The event was back in November at the back of the Australian pub Ned Kelly's was a board game evening organized by ESSENCE. The event started at around 7.30, but some people were already waiting outside, excited to start the fun. As the evening furthered, students slowly started entering the pub. At first, we started the game 'cards against humanity' with the early birds. But soon enough, more groups were formed, each table playing different games. People brought their own games, teaching others their ways of playing and others were hanging by the bar and talking. The atmosphere was cosy and playful.

ESSENCE members got their 3rd drink free, so it was not long before the mood was set.

Coincidentally I turned 18 that night, so we sang happy birthday in multiple languages and the essence board had a sparkler lit for me. It was a fantastic start of my birthday!

Everyone left with a smile on their face. (I heard some people lost their bikes)

Christmas Karaoke

Written by our ESSENCE blogger Gerda

All I want for Christmas is to sing the greatest hits at the top of my lungs, surrounded by my peers and teachers! The exciting celebratory evening started with a warm-up performance by the ESSENCE team and soon turned into a non-stop concert of whirlwind performances from the stage, where everyone found space to squeeze in and join the symphony. All attendees (even casual bar goers!) felt emboldened by the warm atmosphere of Christmas and the general camaraderie to show off their vocal skills! Who could blame them – the ESSET faculty and student body had an enviable good time. The prize for best performance went to Stan for his impressive showcase of flawless rapping abilities, but I think everyone left Ned Kelly’s pub at the end of the night feeling like a winner. ESSENCE organised an amazing gift for students and I have a feeling the next karaoke evening will be a highly coveted event;)
